The Montblanc Fountain Pen

The Montblanc Fountain Pen

General information:

The Montblanc fountain pen is a symbol of luxury and high status.

The company was founded in 1906 as Simplizissimus-Füllhalter in Berlin, then relocated to Hamburg in 1907 and changed its name to Simplo Filler Pen Co. GmbH. It was registered under that name in 1908. Its first model was the “Rouge et Noir” in 1909, followed in 1910 by the “Montblanc” model. The name Meisterstück (literally “masterpiece,” used for export) was first used in 1924. The company adopted its current name in 1934. Today the Montblanc brand includes not only pens but also watches, jewelry, perfume, leather goods, and eyewear.

Key features

  1. Materials: Montblanc fountain pens are made from materials such as black resin, gold, silver, and platinum. Some models use rare materials, such as mother-of-pearl, onyx, or even precious stones.
  2. Nibs: Montblanc nibs are made of gold (typically 14 or 18 karat) and undergo thorough quality checks. Each nib is hand-tuned by craftsmen to ensure a smooth, precise writing feel.
  3. Construction: Every detail of a Montblanc pen’s construction is carefully considered. The classic design features a substantial barrel, a cap with the brand’s signature white star, and a sturdy clip. The ink feed system ensures a continuous, even flow.
