Igor Matveyevich Kostolevsky (born September 10, 1948, Moscow) is a legendary Soviet and Russian actor whose name has become synonymous with intelligent charm and acting craft. People’s Artist of Russia (1995), laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation (2000).
Becoming an Actor
He was born into the family of a high-ranking Soviet official. After a failed attempt to enter the Moscow Art Theatre School in 1969, he became a student at GITIS (under teacher A. A. Goncharov). From 1973 he was an actor at the Mayakovsky Theatre, where he spent the bulk of his stage career.
